Among her distinctions is that God made her womb a vessel for the Imamate. It is reported from Ibn Shahr Ashub that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) came in to Fatima (peace be upon her) and found her distressed. He said to her: What is the matter? I see you distressed. She said: O father! Al-Humayra (Aisha) boasted over my mother that she had not known any man before you, while my mother knew you when she was advanced in years. He (peace be upon him and his family) said: Do not be distressed, for the womb of your mother was a vessel for the Imamate(1).
It is reported that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) entered the house of Aisha one day, and there she was, turning upon Fatima (peace be upon her), shouting at her and saying: O daughter of Khadija! You think of nothing but that your mother had some merit over us. And what merit did she have over us? She was nothing but like any one of us.
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) heard her words to Fatima, and when Fatima saw the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), she wept. He (peace be upon him and his family) said: What makes you weep, my daughter? She said: Al-Humayra mentioned my mother and disparaged her, so I wept. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) became angry and said: O Humayra! God, Blessed and Exalted, blessed the loving and fertile woman, and Khadija bore from me Tahir, Qasim, Fatima, Ruqayya, Umm Kulthum, and Zainab, while you are among those whose womb God has made barren, so you have borne nothing(2).
It is reported that the sister of Khadija came in to the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), and when she sought permission and the Prophet heard Khadija's name, he was filled with great joy. Aisha said: Why do you so often mention Khadija and rejoice at her name, when she was a red-cheeked old woman who has perished, and God has given you and provided you with one better than her? It is as though she meant herself by that. He (peace be upon him and his family) said: No, by God, I have not been provided with anyone better than her. She believed in me when they called me a liar, and she spent her wealth when they were stingy toward me.
During her lifetime, whenever sorrow overcame him (peace be upon him and his family), he would look at Khadija's face and be gladdened by that, just as he would be gladdened when he heard her name. Likewise, when his sorrow intensified, he would look at

Fatima (peace be upon her) and be filled with great joy. And when Khadija passed away, the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) was overcome with grief, and he sat in the house, then migrated to Ta'if.
When Khadija fell ill with the illness in which she died, Asma bint Umays was present with her. Asma said: I was present at the death of Khadija, and she wept. I said: Do you weep when you are the mistress of the women of the worlds, and you are the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), promised Paradise by his own tongue? She said: It is not for this that I weep, but a woman on the night of her wedding must have a woman to whom she can confide her secret and who can help her with her needs. Fatima is young, newly out of childhood, and I fear she may have no one to look after her affair. So I said: My mistress! You have God's covenant from me, that if I remain alive until that time, I will stand in your place in this matter. So when the night of Fatima's (peace be upon her) wedding came, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) came and ordered the women, and they went out. Asma said: I remained, and when the Messenger of God saw my dark form, he said: Who are you? I said: Asma bint Umays. He said: Did I not order you to go out? I said: Yes, O Messenger of God, may my father and mother be your ransom, I did not intend to oppose you, but I gave Khadija such a covenant. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) wept and said: By God, was it for this that you stayed? I said: Yes, by God. So he prayed for me.
O believers, it would weigh heavily upon Khadija, were she present and hearing the moaning of the apple of her eye, Fatima, between the wall and the door, when they pressed her, broke her rib, caused her to miscarry her unborn child, bruised her back, and slapped her cheek. Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him we shall return.
The narrator said: When her illness grew severe, she said: O Messenger of God! Hear my testaments first, for I have fallen short in fulfilling your right, so forgive me, O Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family). The Messenger of God said: God forbid, never! I have seen no shortcoming from you. You have given your utmost, and you have labored in my house with the greatest of toil, and you have given of your wealth and spent all your wealth in the path of God. She said: O Messenger of God! The second testament: I commend this one to you—and she pointed to Fatima—for she will be a stranger after me, so let no woman of Quraysh harm her, nor slap her cheek, nor cry out in her face, nor show her anything hateful.
(633)
I say: It would weigh heavily upon Khadija, were she present when so-and-so slapped her until the slap left its mark on her cheek and her earrings were scattered. How excellent are the words of Sheikh Salih al-Kawwaz, may God have mercy on him, when he says:
Those who leapt to wrong the family of Muhammad
while Muhammad lay cast down, unshrouded,
and those who said to Fatima, You have troubled us
with your long, ceaseless wailing and lamenting,
and those who cut the arak tree so it might give shade
beneath its leaves and branches to those who rest,
and those who gathered firewood at the house through which
the unity of the faith would not have come together,
and those who entered upon the Chaste One's home
and caused her to miscarry her most cherished unborn child,
and those who led their Imam by his sword-belt
while the Pure One called out behind them, ringing,
Leave my cousin, or I shall uncover for supplication
my head and complain to God of my sorrows—
the she-camel of Salih and her calf were never,
in merit before God, anything but lesser than me—
and she turned toward the noble grave with a tearful eye
and a heart darkened and grieving:
O father, this is the Samaritan and his calf—
they were followed, and the people turned away from Aaron.(1)

Khadija (peace be upon her) said: As for the third testament, I will say it to my daughter Fatima, and she will say it to you, for I am shy before you, O Messenger of God. So the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) rose and left the chamber, and she called Fatima and said: O my beloved and the apple of my eye! Say to your father: My mother says: I am afraid of the grave. I want from you your cloak that you wear when revelation descends, so that you may shroud me in it. So Fatima (peace be upon her) went out and told her father what her mother Khadija had said, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) rose and gave the cloak to Fatima (peace be upon her), and she brought it to her mother, who rejoiced at it with great joy.
It is reported that when Khadija (peace be upon her) passed away, the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) undertook her preparation, washed her, and embalmed her. When he wished to shroud her, the trustworthy Gabriel descended and said: O Messenger of God! God

conveys peace to you, and singles you out with greeting and honor, and says to you: O Muhammad! Indeed, the shroud of Khadija—it is from the shrouds of Paradise that God has gifted to her. So the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) shrouded her in his noble cloak first, and in what Gabriel had brought second. So she had two shrouds: a shroud from God and a shroud from the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family)(1).
Would that Gabriel (peace be upon him) had descended on the day of Taff with a shroud from Paradise for the Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him), who remained upon the dust of Karbala for three days with no shroud and no burial. How excellent are the words of Sheikh Abd al-Hussein al-Hayawi, when he says:
It weighs heavily upon the Pure Virgin to see
one dear to her cast down, his shroud the dust,
it weighs heavily upon her to see him forbidden
the water of the Euphrates—he who was her dowry,
it weighs heavily upon the Chosen One that his descendant
has his chest crushed by the hooves of charging steeds.
There is no praiseworthy patience in the slaying of Fatima's son,
and there is no excuse for whoever's tears do not flow.(2)

And Sheikh Salih al-Kawwaz, may God have mercy on him, said:

for the cheek of the noblest of Nizar lies humbled in the dust,
and let the earth be filled with death-cries from your swords,

The Twenty-Fifth Gathering
Salvation Through the People of the House (peace be upon them)
It is reported from Rafi, the freedman of Abu Dharr, who said: Abu Dharr, may God be pleased with him, climbed the steps of the Kaaba until he grasped the door-ring, then leaned his back against it and said: O people! Whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me—I am Abu Dharr. I heard the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) say: The likeness of the people of my house among this nation is but as the likeness of Noah's ark: whoever boards it is saved, and whoever leaves it perishes. And I heard the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) say: Make the people of my house among you as the head is to the body, and as the two eyes are to the head, for the body is not guided except by the head, and the head is not guided except by the two eyes(1).
(1) .
It is reported from Jafar ibn Muhammad (peace be upon him) who said: Gabriel remained forty days without descending to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family). He said: O Lord, my longing for Your Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) has intensified, so grant me leave. God Almighty revealed to him and said: O Gabriel! Descend to My beloved and My Prophet, and convey to him peace from Me, and inform him that I have singled him out with prophethood and favored him over all the prophets. And convey peace from Me to his successor, and inform him that I have singled him out with the succession and favored him over all the successors. He said: So Gabriel descended to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family). When he descended, a cushion of leather stuffed with palm fibers would be set out for him, and he sat before the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and said: O Muhammad! God Almighty conveys peace to you and informs you that He has singled you out with prophethood and favored you over all the prophets, and He conveys peace to your successor and informs you that He has singled him out with the succession and favored him over all the successors. He said: So the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) sent for him and summoned him and told him what Gabriel had said. He said: Ali (peace be upon him) wept intensely, then said: I ask God not to strip me of my religion, nor to take from me His honor, and to grant me what He has promised me.

Gabriel said: O Muhammad! It is fitting upon God that He not punish Ali, nor anyone who takes him as a guardian. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: O Gabriel! Regardless of what comes from them, or will all of them be saved? Gabriel said: O Muhammad! Whoever took Shith (Seth) as guardian was saved through Shith, and Shith was saved through Adam, and Adam was saved through God. And whoever took Sam (Shem) as guardian was saved through Sam, and Sam was saved through Noah, and Noah was saved through God. And whoever took Asif as guardian was saved through Asif, and Asif was saved through Solomon, and Solomon was saved through God. And whoever took Yusha (Joshua) as guardian was saved through Yusha, and Yusha was saved through Moses, and Moses was saved through God. And whoever took Sham'un (Simon) as guardian was saved through Sham'un, and Sham'un was saved through Jesus, and Jesus was saved through God. And whoever took Ali as guardian was saved through Ali, and Ali was saved through you, and you were saved through God. Indeed, everything is by God. And the angels and the guardian-angels truly take pride over all the angels for their companionship with him. He said: So Ali (peace be upon him) sat, hearing the speech of Gabriel without seeing his person. He said: I said to Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him): May I be your ransom, what was the nature of their conversation when they gathered? He said: They remembered God Almighty but could not attain to His greatness, then they mentioned the virtue of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and what God had given him of His knowledge and entrusted to him of His message, then they mentioned the matter of our Shia and the supplication for them, and they concluded with praise and laudation of God. He said: I said: May I be your ransom, O Abu Abdullah, do the angels truly know us? He said: Glory be to God! And how should they not know you, when they have been charged with supplication for you, and "the angels surrounding the Throne, glorifying with the praise of their Lord," "and seeking forgiveness for those who believe"—their seeking forgiveness is for none but you, apart from this world(1).
It is reported from Abu Jafar the Second (al-Jawad), from his forefathers, from al-Hussein ibn Ali (peace be upon them), who said: I came in to the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), and with him was Ubayy ibn Kab. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said to me: Welcome to you, O Abu Abdullah, O adornment of the heavens and the earths. Ubayy said to him: How, O Messenger of God, can anyone other than you be the adornment of the heavens and the earth? He said: O Ubayy! By the One who sent me as a Prophet with the truth, al-Hussein ibn Ali is greater in the heavens than he is upon the earth. And indeed it is written on the right of God's Throne: a lamp of guidance, a ship of salvation, and an Imam of good, blessing, might, pride, knowledge, and treasure. And indeed God, Mighty

and Majestic, placed in his loins a good, blessed, and pure seed(1). How excellent are the words of Dibil al-Khuzai when he says concerning the People of the House of Infallibility (peace be upon them):
Where are those whom the exile of distance has scattered,
fragmented across the lands in scattered groups?
They are the family who inherit the Prophet when lineage is traced,
and they are the best of masters and the best of protectors,
providers of food in times of hardship in every place;
they have been honored with merit and blessings.
If, in our prayers, we do not commune with God
through their mention, the prayers are not accepted.
Imams of justice, whose deeds are followed,
through whom one is safe from the slip of stumbling.
So, my Lord, increase my heart in guidance and insight,
and increase, my Lord, their love among my good deeds.
The dwellings of the Messenger of God have become desolate,
while the houses of Ziyad have become inhabited,
and the family of the Messenger of God—their necks were shackled,
while the family of Ziyad—their necks grew thick,
and the family of the Messenger of God—their throats run with blood,
while the family of Ziyad adorned the bridal chambers,
and the family of the Messenger of God—their sanctified women are taken captive,
while the family of Ziyad dwell secure in their pathways,
and the family of Ziyad in palaces, well-guarded,
while the family of the Messenger of God in the wilderness.
O you who inherit the knowledge of the Prophet and his family,
upon you be peace, ever-fragrant.
My soul has believed in you during its life,
and indeed I hope for security after my death.(2)
The Twenty-Sixth Gathering
On Love for the People of the House (peace be upon them)
It is found in the Book of al-Mazar by al-Mashhadi, may God have mercy on him, in one of the noble visitation-prayers:

So I call God, my Creator, to witness, and I call to witness His angels and His prophets, and I call you, my masters, to witness, that I am a believer in your guardianship, holding firm to your Imamate, affirming your successorship, knowing your station, believing in your infallibility, submitting to your guardianship, drawing near to God through love of you and through disavowal of your enemies, knowing that God has purified you from indecencies, both their apparent and their hidden, and from every doubt and impurity, baseness and defilement, and has granted you the banner of truth—whoever goes ahead of it is humiliated, and whoever falls behind it errs—and He has made obedience to you obligatory upon every black and white person(1).
Among what is reported from Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him) are his words:
We, at the Pool, are its guardians;
we drive away, and its visitors are made happy,
and none has triumphed who triumphed except through us,
and none has failed whose love for us was his provision,
and whoever gladdens us attains joy from us,
and whoever grieves us—wretched is his birth.
It is reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) that he said to Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him): O Ali! None loves you but one of pure birth, and none hates you but one of impure birth, and none takes you as guardian but a believer, and none takes you as enemy but a disbeliever. And it is reported, among what the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) admonished Nawf al-Bikali, that he said: O Nawf! He who claims he is born of legitimacy, while he hates me and hates the Imams from my offspring, has lied. And it is reported from Ibn Abbas and others that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: None loves you but one of pure birth, and none hates you but one of impure birth. And from Ibrahim ibn Ziyad al-Karkhi, from al-Sadiq Jafar ibn Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said: The signs of the child born of adultery are three: bad conduct, yearning toward adultery, and hatred of us, the People of the House.
And from al-Hussein ibn Zayd, from al-Sadiq, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: Whoever loves us, the People of the House, let him praise God for the first of blessings. It was said: And what is the first of blessings? He said: A pure birth, for none loves us but one whose birth is pure.
(639)
And from Zayd ibn Ali, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: O Ali! Whoever loves me and loves you and loves the Imams from your offspring, let him praise God for the purity of his birth, for none loves us but one whose birth is pure, and none hates us but one whose birth is impure.
And from al-Mufaddal, who said: I heard al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) say to his companions: Whoever finds the coolness of our love upon his heart, let him pray much for his mother, for she did not betray his father. And from Abu Rafi, from Ali (peace be upon him), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: Whoever does not love my kin is one of three: either a hypocrite, or one born of adultery, or a man whose mother conceived him in a state of impurity(1).
And from Jabir, from Abu Jafar (peace be upon him), from Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said to Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him): Shall I not give you good tidings? Shall I not bestow upon you? He said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He said: I and you were created from a single clay, and there remained a surplus of it, and from it our Shia were created. So when the Day of Resurrection comes, people will be called by their mothers, except your Shia, for they will be called by the names of their fathers, on account of the purity of their birth.
And from Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, who said: We were at Mina with the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) when we saw a man prostrating, bowing, and supplicating. We said: O Messenger of God, how beautiful is his prayer! He (peace be upon him and his family) said: He is the one who expelled your father from Paradise. So Ali (peace be upon him) went toward him, unconcerned, and shook him such a shaking that he forced his right ribs into the left and the left into the right, then said: I shall surely kill you, God willing. He said: You shall never be able to do that until an appointed term from my Lord. Why do you wish to kill me? By God, none has hated you but that my seed preceded the seed of his father to the womb of his mother, and I have shared with those who hate you in wealth and children. And this is the saying of God, Mighty and Majestic, in the clear text of His Book: "And share with them in wealth and children."(2)
(640)
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: You have spoken truly, O Ali. None among Quraysh hates you but one born of fornication, and none among the Ansar but a Jew, and none among the Arabs but an illegitimate one, and none among the rest of the people but a wretch, and none among the women but a salqalqiyya—and she is the one who menstruates from her rear. Then he bowed his head for a while, then raised his head and said: O company of the Ansar, test your children by the love of Ali. Jabir ibn Abdullah said: So we used to test the love of Ali (peace be upon him) upon our children: whoever loved Ali, we knew that he was of our children, and whoever hated Ali, we disowned him(1).
And from Abdullah ibn Jabala, from his father, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah ibn Hizam al-Ansari say: We were with the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) one day, a group of the Ansar, and he said to us: O company of the Ansar! Test your children with the love of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), for whoever loves him, know that he is of legitimate birth, and whoever hates him, know that he is of illegitimate birth.
And from al-Harith al-Hamdani, who said: I came in to the Commander of the Faithful Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), and he said: What has brought you? I said: My love for you, O Commander of the Faithful. He said: O Harith! Do you love me? I said: Yes, by God, O Commander of the Faithful. He said: Now, when your soul reaches your throat, you will see me where you would love, and were you to see me as I drive the men away from the Pool as one drives away stray camels, you would see me where you would love, and were you to see me as I pass over the Sirat with the Banner of Praise before the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), you would see me where you would love.
And it is reported from Ali ibn al-Hussein, from his father (peace be upon them), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: My love and the love of the People of my House is beneficial in seven places whose terrors are tremendous: at death, in the grave, at the Resurrection, at the Book, at the Reckoning, at the Scale, and at the Sirat.
And al-Sakuni reported, from al-Sadiq, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said:
(641)
The firmest of you in foothold upon the Sirat is the most intense of you in love for the People of my House.
And from al-Thumali, from Abu Jafar, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), who said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said to Ali (peace be upon him): God has not fixed your love in the heart of a Muslim man, then his foot slipped upon the Sirat, but that a foot was made firm for him until God admitted him through your love into Paradise.
And it is reported from Ibn Nabata, who said: Al-Harith al-Hamdani came in to the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) among a group of the Shia, and I was with him among those who entered. Al-Harith began to sway in his gait and to strike the ground with his staff, for he was ill. The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) turned toward him—and al-Harith held a station with him—and said: How do you find yourself, O Harith? He said: Time has taken its toll on me, and the disputing of your companions at your door has added to my crookedness and torment. He said: Concerning what? He said: Concerning your affair, and the trial that comes from you—some extreme and exaggerating, some hating and detracting, and some hesitating and doubtful, not knowing whether to advance or hold back. He said: Enough for you, O brother of Hamdan. Indeed, the best of my Shia are the middle group; to them the extremist returns, and with them the laggard catches up. He said: Were you—may my father and mother be your ransom—to remove the doubt from our hearts, and place us in that matter upon clear insight regarding our affair.
He said: Stop, for you are a man over whom confusion has been cast. Indeed, the religion of God is not known through men, but through the sign of truth, and the sign is the marker. So know the truth, and you will know its people. O Harith! Indeed, the truth is the finest of discourse, and the one who proclaims it is a fighter. With the truth I inform you, so lend me your ear, then convey it to whoever among your companions has a need for it. Indeed, I am the servant of God and the brother of His Messenger and his foremost veracious one (al-Siddiq al-Awwal). I affirmed him as truthful when Adam was between spirit and body. Then indeed I am his foremost veracious one in your nation, truly. We are the first, and we are the last. Indeed, I am his intimate—O Harith—and his chosen one, his elect, his successor, his guardian, the companion of his confidence and his secret. I have been given the understanding of the Book, the decisive judgment, and the knowledge of the Quran and its causes, and I have been entrusted with a thousand keys, each key opening a thousand doors, each door leading to a thousand thousand covenants, and I have been supported—or he said: aided—with the Night of Power as a special grace. And indeed that runs for me
(642)
and for those of my offspring who are entrusted with safeguarding, as long as night and day run, until God inherits the earth and all upon it. I give you good tidings, O Harith: surely—by the One who split the seed and created the soul—my friend and my enemy shall recognize me in various places: at death, at the Sirat, and at the apportionment. He said: And what is the apportionment? He said: The apportionment of the Fire. I shall apportion it with a true apportionment, saying: This is my friend, and this is my enemy.
Then the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) took al-Harith by the hand and said: O Harith! I have taken your hand as the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) took my hand, and he said to me—when I had complained to him of the envy of Quraysh and the hypocrites—: When the Day of Resurrection comes, I shall grasp the sash of the Owner of the Throne, Exalted, and you shall grasp—O Ali—my sash, and your offspring shall grasp your sash, and your Shia shall grasp your sashes. So what will God do with His Prophet? And what will His Prophet do with his successor? And what will his successor do with the People of his House and their Shia? Take it from me, O Harith—a brief word from a long matter: you are with whom you love, and yours is what you have earned. He said it three times. Al-Harith said—rising and dragging his cloak in delight—: After this, I do not care, by my Lord, whether I meet death or death meets me(1).
And from the Book Mashariq al-Anwar: from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) who said: The love of the People of my House benefits whoever loves them in seven terrifying places: at death, in the grave, at rising from the graves, at the scattering of the records, at the Reckoning, at the Scale, and at the Sirat. So whoever wishes to be secure in these places, let him take Ali as guardian after me, and let him hold firm to the strong rope—and that is Ali ibn Abi Talib and his kin after him—for they are my successors and my guardians. Their knowledge is my knowledge, their forbearance is my forbearance, their manners are my manners, their lineage is my lineage. They are the masters of the guardians, the leaders of the God-fearing, and the remnant of the prophets. War against them is war against me, and their enemy is my enemy.
And from the Book Alam al-Din by al-Daylami, from the Book of al-Hussein ibn Said, with his chain of transmission from Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him), who said: When the soul of one of you reaches this—and he gestured to his throat—it is said to him: As for what

you used to dread of the worry of the world, you are now secured from it. Then he is given his glad tidings.
And from him, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), from the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), that he said to the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him): Give your Shia and those who love you the glad tidings of ten qualities: the first is the purity of their birth; the second is the goodness of their faith; the third is God's love for them; the fourth is the spaciousness of their graves; the fifth is their light running before them; the sixth is the removal of poverty from before their eyes and the richness of their hearts; the seventh is God's loathing of their enemies; the eighth is safety from leprosy and elephantiasis; the ninth is the falling away of sins and misdeeds from them; and the tenth is that they will be with me in Paradise and I with them. So blessedness is theirs and an excellent place of return.
And Jabir ibn Abdullah reported, saying: While we were with the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), he turned to Ali (peace be upon him) and said: O Abu al-Hasan! This is Gabriel (peace be upon him) saying: Indeed God Almighty has granted your Shia and those who love you seven qualities: gentleness at death, intimacy in loneliness, light in darkness, safety in terror, justice at the Scale, passage over the Sirat, and entry into Paradise before the people—their light running before them.
And Jabir also reported from him (peace be upon him and his family) that he said: Whoever loves the Imams from the People of my House has attained the good of this world and the Hereafter, so let no one doubt that he is in Paradise. For in the love of the People of my House are twenty qualities: ten in this world and ten in the Hereafter. As for in this world: asceticism, eagerness for action, scrupulousness in religion, desire for worship, repentance before death, vigor in standing for night prayer, despair of what is in the hands of people, safeguarding the commands and prohibitions of God, Mighty and Majestic; the ninth is detachment from the world; and the tenth is generosity.
And as for in the Hereafter: no ledger will be unfolded for him, no scale set up for him, he will be given his book in his right hand, and a discharge from the Fire will be written for him, his face will turn white, he will be clothed in the garments of Paradise, he will intercede for a hundred of the People of his House, God will look upon him with mercy, he will be crowned with the crowns of Paradise, and the tenth

is entry into Paradise without reckoning. So blessedness is for the lover of the People of my House.
And from Ibn Abi Yafur, who said: Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) said: I have come to feel embarrassed at how often I repeat this speech to you: Between any one of you and his being envied for his joy is only that his soul reaches here—and he gestured with his hand to his larynx—the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) and Ali (peace be upon him) come to him and say to him: As for what you used to fear, God has secured you from it, and as for what you used to hope for, it is before you. So rejoice: you are the good ones, and your women are the good women. Every believing woman is a wide-eyed houri; every believer is a veracious one, a martyr.
He said: And Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) said to his companions, initiating it himself: You loved us while the people hated us, you believed us true while the people called us liars, you kept ties with us while the people shunned us. So may God make your life our life, and your death our death. By God, between the man among you and God's gladdening of his eye, there is only that his soul reaches this place—and he gestured to his throat and stretched the skin—then he repeated it. By God, he was not content until he swore an oath, saying: By God, beside whom there is no god, my father Muhammad ibn Ali narrated this to me: Indeed the people have gone this way and that, while you have taken hold where God took hold. Indeed God chose from among His servants Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and you chose God's chosen one. So fear God, and render the trusts to the black and the white, even if he be a Haruri (Kharijite), even if he be a Syrian.
And from Abd al-Rahim, who said: Abu Jafar (peace be upon him) said to me: One of you is envied for his joy only when his soul reaches here, then the angel descends upon him and says: As for what you used to hope for, you have been given it, and as for what you used to fear, you have been secured from it. Then a door is opened for him to his dwelling in Paradise, and it is said to him: Look at your abode in Paradise, and look: this is the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), and so-and-so, and so-and-so, and so-and-so—they are your companions. And that is His saying, Exalted: "Those who believed and were ever God-fearing—for them are glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter."(1)
And from Safwan, from Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him), who said: By God, you are upon the religion of God and the religion of His angels, and you—by God—are upon the truth. So fear God, restrain your tongues, pray in

your mosques, and visit your sick. When the people become distinguished, then become distinguished, for your reward is upon God. And the most envied state you can be in is when the soul of one of you reaches this—and he gestured to his throat—his eye is gladdened.
And from Jabir al-Jufi, from Abu Jafar (peace be upon him), who said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said to al-Harith al-Awar: Our love shall surely benefit you at three times: at the descent of the Angel of Death, at your questioning in your grave, and at your standing before God.
And from Abu Amr al-Kashshi, from Muhammad ibn Masud, raising it to Said ibn Yasar, that he was present with one of the two sons of Sabur—and they two possessed piety and humility. One of them fell ill, and I think it was none other than Zakariyya ibn Sabur. He said: I was present with him at his death. He said: He stretched out his hand, then said: I have stretched out my hand, O Ali. He said: I related that to Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him), then rose from him, and his messenger followed me, so I returned to him. He said: Tell me the account of the man at whose death you were present—what did you hear him say? I said: He stretched out his hand, then said: I have stretched out my hand, O Ali. Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) said: He saw him, by God; he saw him, by God.
And among the testaments of Jabir al-Ansari, may God's pleasure be upon him, to Atiyya al-Awfi is what he said to him after returning with him from visiting Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him). Atiyya said: When we had reached part of the way, he said to me: O Atiyya! Shall I give you a testament? For I do not think I shall meet you after this journey. Love whoever loves the family of Muhammad as long as he loves them, and hate whoever hates the family of Muhammad as long as he hates them, even if he be one who fasts much and prays much. And be gentle with the lover of the family of Muhammad, for even if a foot slips with them due to the abundance of their sins, another is made firm for them through their love. For their lover returns to Paradise, and their hater returns to the Fire(1).
And how excellent are the words of Sheikh Muhammad Ali al-Yaqubi, may God have mercy on him, when he says:
For were it not for them, no dawn would have shone in the horizon,
nor would the meadow of the earth have been lush, nor its stalks turned green.
